Student balloons capture Earth images from 35 kilometres above Cobar
Newcastle high school students successfully launched two high-altitude balloons from Cobar on July 5, 2026, reaching 35 kilometers high. The balloons, built for a STEM project, collected important atmospheric data and were retrieved with the help of local resident Ezra Roberts. The students raised $15,000 for their ambitious project.
