Nicky Winmar statue to be removed from stadium after assault conviction
WA Premier Roger Cook ordered the removal of a statue of former AFL player Nicky Winmar following his conviction for assaulting a woman. The statue was unveiled in 2019 to commemorate Winmar's stand against racism in football. Cook stated that the display was no longer appropriate in light of the conviction.
