NSW trials AI system detecting wildlife and warning drivers on Monaro Highway

NSW will trial an AI-powered system called PAWS that detects wildlife and warns drivers in real time, beginning in August on a 300-metre section of the Monaro Highway between Canberra and Cooma. The technology uses thermal imaging and artificial intelligence trained to recognize animals, particularly kangaroos, activating illuminated roadside signs only when animals approach or cross.
