California announces minimum wage increase as governor taunts Trump

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Friday the state's minimum wage will rise to $17.40 on January 1, becoming the nation's highest. The increase from the current $16.90 follows years of growth since Newsom took office in 2019, when the minimum was $12. Newsom criticized the federal minimum wage of $7.25, last raised during the Bush administration.
