Zimbabwe MPs pass bill to extend president's time in power
Zimbabwe's lower house of parliament passed a bill on Thursday to extend presidential terms from five to seven years, enabling President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in power until 2030. Two hundred sixteen lawmakers supported the draft, while forty-two opposed. The bill eliminates direct presidential elections, allowing future presidents to be chosen by parliament.
