Suspected case of bird flu detected in Australia

The first suspected case of H5N1 bird flu was detected in a migratory bird in south-west Western Australia on Friday. Agriculture Minister Julie Collins confirmed the initial test was positive, prompting further testing for confirmation. An outbreak could severely impact native bird species, which have not been previously exposed to the virus.
