Niantic partners with military drone company using Pokémon Go location data
Niantic confirmed this week a partnership with Vantor, a military drone software company, using AI trained on Pokémon Go location scans to help drones navigate areas without GPS. Players voluntarily uploaded the scans through the 2021 game update, which Niantic used to train its foundation models. Both companies said civilian data was not directly shared with Vantor for the partnership.
